Platinum Boxing Promotions’ inaugural boxing event “The Quest”, will take place at Sweetwater High School, August 3 at 6:30 pm.

“The San Diego Sensation” Sergio Espinoza. Espinoza

The five card bout will feature “The San Diego Sensation” Sergio Espinoza. Espinoza who had a great amateur boxing career, is the only boxer in the history of San Diego County to have won four major national amateur boxing titles. Espinoza has won the Junior National Championship, the National PAL Boxing Championship (twice), the National Golden Glove Championship and the USA National Championship. As a professional boxer Espinoza has secured a perfect 9-0 record.

Espinoza, a technically skilled and accurate boxer, is know for his crisp body shots and superior boxing skills. The first round is usually a round in which Espinoza studies his opponent, after which, round by round he breaks his opponent down with a fortress of blows, outstanding defense, amazing speed and well-placed and timely power punches.

“I’m very excited to be boxing in my home town and especially at Sweetwater High School, this is a homecoming celebration of sorts, I graduated from Sweetwater High. This gives me an opportunity to show case my talents in front of friends and family members. I hope to bring back a title to Sweetwater High, my immediate community and the entire San Diego county.”

“Sergio is one of the best prospects out there in boxing today,” states Gabriel Barron, of Platinum Boxing Promotions. “When you see Espinoza in action you immediately know why boxing is called the ‘Sweet Science’. He’s one of the best boxers I have seen come out of San Diego in a long time,” concludes Barron.

Espinoza will be taking on a tough Ray Carlos Lopez of Sinalo, Mexico. Lopez has a reputation of bringing a complete arsenal of power and speed each time he steps into the ring. Lopez is to be Espinoza’s biggest test to this point. Lopez comes into the Sweetwater arena with an impressive 15-4 record.

As the co-main event for Platinum Promotions is the hard-hitting Luis Perez from Puerto Rico. Perez who is 23-1-1 with 14 KO’s was one time ranked number 2 in the world and is currently ranked number 4 in the world. Perez is back on track to continue his quest for a world title under the management of Ricardo Moldo-nado who has ten current world champions, with the most popular being Marcos Antonio Barrera.

Perez is not going to cruise to the top like Espinoza, Perez will face a top-level worthy opponent in Fernando “Tigre” Mena. Mena is a devastating power puncher, with good agility and clever boxing skills. Mena brings to the table a 15-3-2 record with 13 KO’s.
