Classical Guitar Concerts

The South Chula Vista Branch located at 389 Orange Ave., has two classical guitar concerts scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Rosemary Lane Galeria.

On July 13, Magdalena Loza Flores and Rosana Cedeña will perform a classical guitar recital. They are known as two of the pillars of the classical guitar movement in Tijuana.

On July 27, Delfino Rodriguez who has performed widely in the state of Baja California, will give a concert. He is also an instructor for the Centro Hispanoamericano de Guitarra, CETYS and the University of B.C. in Tijuana. They will play works by Bach, Dowland, Sor, Ponce, among others. Explosion of Bells, Drums and Leather

Campanile, a nationally known musical ensemble group, brings "Nocturnal Journeys" to Point Loma Nazarene University on July 14th at 8 p.m. This is what you get when you start with bells and chimes, add liberal amounts of drums and dance and mix in a touch of theatre and leather. Palenque Musical 2001

For the first time Vicente Fernández and Joan Sebastian will perform together on the same stage at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California., Saturday, July 14, 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm. Also performing will be Los Tucanes de Tijuana. A percentage of ticket sales will benefit Homeless Healthcare Los Angeles. For ticket purchases call your nearest Ticketmaster.

 

"Pearls of the Pacific"

The 7th Annual San Diego Pacific Islander Festival arrives at Southwestern College, located at the corner of H Street and Otay Lakes Road in Chula Vista on July 14-15. Admission is free and plenty of free parking is available.

The festival will showcase foods, crafts, artifacts, jewelry, plants, lotions and perfumes, singing and chanting, dancing and storytelling in the finest Pacific Islander tradition. "Pearls of the Pacific" conveys a message that Pacific Islanders wish to showcase the jewels of each of their cultures.

 

Chula Vista's Library Anniversary

A community celebration with children's activities, a concert in the park and refreshments will mark the 25th anniversary of Chula Vista's Civic Center Branch Library. The festivities will be held from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on July 15 in the Friendship Park adjacent to the library at 365 F St. Birthday cake, lemonade and popcorn, provided by the Friends will be served.

 

BeatleFair 2001

The Southern California Beatle Fan club is hosting its sixth annual BeatleFair on Sunday, July 15 at the Scottish Rite Center located at 1895 Camino Del Rio South, San Diego, from 11 am to 8 pm. Special guest this year will feature Jerry G. Bishop, a respected and well-known San Diego radio personality. Making their second appearance is the Beatles tribute band "Fab Four." San Diego's award winning band Rockola will also perform their Beatles "B" Side Show. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 687-3687 for $10, or $12 on the day of the event. Parking is free.

 

Children's Make-A-Circus Show

A free circus entertainment show featuring clowns, jugglers and amazing aerial acts is coming to Chula Vista on July 17. Make*A*Circus will present its show, "Penelope Puddle's Problematic Playground" in a performance at 1 p.m. in Marina View Park, just west of I-5 off the Marina Parkway/J Street exit.

During its third visit to Chula Vista, this fun-filled event features a circus performance in three acts: the main circus performance, a 45 minute performing arts workshop with children of all ages participating, and a scripted act with children in roles where they can show off their newly acquired circus skills. The combination of workshops and performance on stage also helps to foster the self-esteem of children through their active participation.

 

Summer Fun Bash 2001

July is National Parks and Recreation Month and the City of Oceanside Parks and Recreation Services is celebrating with a Summer Fun Bash 2001 on Thursday, July 19th at the Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, 300 North Coast Highway from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. There will be lots of fun with arts, crafts, free drinks and hot dogs, music entertainment and great giveaways.
