From Astronomy to Web Page Design, College for Kids Offers Something for Everyone

CHULA VISTA – Just in time to quell those mid-summer blues, Southwestern College announces its second session of College for Kids (CFK). Designed to provide gifted and talented students entering grades 5 through 9 a glimpse into the world of higher education, CFK offers youngsters the opportunity to take fun, educational courses like Crime Scene Investigation and Life Under the Microscope on a real college campus.

Scheduled for July 22 through August 1, classes are held Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost for the two-week session is $110. If more than one child in an immediate family enrolls, a discount of $10 per child will be given. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, is limited to 25 students per class, and can be completed by calling 619-482-6379.

“College for Kids presents stimulating, challenging enrichment experiences for students,” says Sandy Cortez, Coordinator for Southwestern College’s CFK. “With so many different courses available, there is bound to be something of interest to everyone.”

In addition to Beginning Spanish, Photography, Astronomy, Ceramics, Theater, Web Page Design, Calligraphy, Circus Skills, Art, and Babysitting Training, which are courses that are offered every year, new offerings for this summer include Web Movies, Creative Arts, Exploring the Wild, Intermediate Spanish, Writing Adventures, Hip Hop, and Fire Fighting/First Aid.
