The United States Institute of Amateur Athletics (USIAA) will once again present “The Road One Inc., Boxers for Christ National Championship”. The National Championship will be held at The Boxing Club located at 4161 Convoy St., in San Diego. The event will be held July 5, at 6:30 pm. July 6 and 7 at 1 pm.
Featured will be three days of amateur boxing competition, Gospel music, Bible study and Fellowship breakfast for athletes.
Boxing teams scheduled to compete include: Richard Steel’s Boxing Team from Las Vegas, Market St. Boxing Gym, Meadowbrook Boxing Team, Delano PAL, Papa Bears Boxing Team, F.I.G.H.T.S. Boxing Gym, PunchOut Gym, Community Youth Athletics, Montoya’s Boxing Team, Maywood Boxing Team, Guiterrez Boxing Team, Arena Boxing Gym, Long Beach PAL, Jet Center Boxing Team, The Boxing Club, City Boxing, Camp Pendelton USMC, and the United States Institute of Amateur Athletics.
The winners of the three-day championship will capture the title of the 2002 National Boxers For Christ Championship and will be rated number 1 in the Boxers for Christ rankings.
However, for individuals in the “Open” category (advanced boxers) the stakes are higher. The winners in the Open Category will secure a two-week trip to Italy. The Italy trip is scheduled for August 12 through August 24, 2002. The Boxers for Christ National Team is scheduled to box twice in Italy and secure a Christian education, complete with tours of the Coliseum and Christian historical sights.
In order for the USIAA to provide this most worthwhile trip for the athletes they must raise $8,000 dollars. The USIAA is seeking contributions from individuals, the business community and churches throughout San Diego County.
