“How to Eat Like a Child”

Twenty-two secret lessons hilariously demonstrated, on how to handle the joys and sorrows of being a child in this mischievous fast-paced musical. It can be seen at the Casa del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park from July 5 - 19th. Ticket prices range from $7 - $10. Please call the box office at 239-8355 for ticket purchases.

Gregg Karukas

Jazz musician, keyboardist and composer, Gregg Karukas comes to Oceanside as part of the City of Oceanside Sounds in the Park 2002 Concert Series to be held July 6 at Rancho del Oro Park. He is well known for his brilliant, soulful and melodic style, blending acoustic piano with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. He produces a fresh take on a mix of pop, R&B/soul, blues and Brazilian grooves. The Little Prince

World premier of the full length ballet The Little Prince will be performed by the dancers of Colegio la Esperanza and The Americas Foundation on Sunday, July 7 at 4:00 p.m. at the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in Otay Mesa, Tijuana, B.C.

It is not everyday that one has an opportunity to see a ballet adapted from a French novel, choreographed by a Kirov trained Russian ballet master, and performed by Mexican children and Russian Ballerinas in Tijuana. Latin Music Festival

Join us Sunday, July 7th 12:00 - 7:00 p.m. at 2258 Island Avenue, between 21 - 24th Streets and celebrate the music and dance of our Latino Heritage. Featured bands will include: Los Alacranes, Sismo Musical, La Droga Electra, Grupo Diluvio, Emanue, Banda La Leyenda, Kokopelli and other local performers. Enjoy carne asada, tamales, tostadas, pico de gallo and Thai food booths. There will also be carnival games, mechanical rides, loteria, information booths and a health fair.

Drum & Dance Workshop

Presenting a Cuban-Haitian Drum & Dance Workshop, taught by members of the Folkloric Company Ban Rra Rra from Guantanamo, Cuba. Classes are Wednesday, July 10 and Thursday, July 11 at the City Heights Performance Annex, located at 3795 Fairmont Avenue. Saturday, July 13 classes will include Cuban Salsa, Cuban-Haitian drum and Cuban-Haitian dance at Stage 7 School of Dance, located at 3980 30th St., in North Park.

All classes are mixed levels. Cost for any single class is $15; all 4 dance classes for $50 and all 3 drum classes for $35. Call 619-516-3366 to register.


Artist Show Carolanne Gano

The San Diego Art Institute is proud to announce that Carolanne Gano will be one of the featured artist of our exhibition that runs from July 11 to August 11. The title of her show is Earth Spirits and the gala reception for this show will be on July 19th at our gallery in Balboa Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Her love of nature is reflected in her oil paintings, which offer a distinctive interpretation of the landscape genre. We hope to see you at the reception.


The Secret Garden

This is an elegant and entrancing classical tale of newly orphaned 10 year-old Mary Lennox who moves back to England from India to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son.
