Registration Open for Pardee Torrey Pines 5K Race for Knowledge

A day of individual and team competition, family fun and kids’ races in Carmel Valley

Registration is now open for one of San Diego’s most popular 5K races. The 18th annual Pardee Torrey Pines 5K Race for Knowledge is set to run on Feb. 27, 2005. This family-oriented event runs through the beautiful neighborhoods of Carmel Valley and finishes on the upper field at Torrey Pines High School.

The Pardee Torrey Pines 5K is the official warm-up race for the world-renowned Carlsbad 5000 and Junior Carlsbad races, scheduled for April 2nd and 3rd, 2005. The Race for Knowledge is sponsored by Pardee Homes and benefits the City of San Diego’s Carmel Valley Branch Library and Torrey Pines High School Foundation. In addition, the City of San Diego matches half of all funds raised for the Carmel Valley Library and distributes it to library branches citywide.

Runners and walkers, teens and adults of all levels are invited to this scenic, challenging and fast 3.1-mile course. Children ages 12 and under can participate in a series of kids races including one-mile, half-mile and quarter-mile runs, a Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash. Participants and spectators can enjoy the Health & Fitness Expo, displaying the latest in running apparel, nutritional products and health services, as well as a post-race celebration highlighted by the opportunity to meet America’s fastest miler, Steve Scott.

On race day, the chip-timed 5K Run and 5K Walk begin at 8:00 a.m. and 8:05 a.m., respectively. This event also includes a team competition. A one-mile Kids Run for children ages 7-12 begins at 9:10 a.m., followed by a half-mile Kids Run for ages 5-6 at 9:25 a.m., a quarter-mile run for four-year-olds at 9:40 a.m., and a Toddler Trot and Diaper Dash for ages three and under at 9:50 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The top three male and female 5K Run winners from each age group will receive an award and Mizuno merchandise. The top three overall male and female winners in the 5K Walk, 1 Mile, 1/2 Mile and 1/4 Mile Kids Runs will also receive awards and prizes. Every child receives a commemorative medal as they cross the finish line.

The event will also feature a Kids Corner; a secure, interactive fun-zone for kids ages 3-12 to play safely while parents participate in the 5K Run or Walk. This adult supervised area will feature a Jolly Jumper, arts and crafts and other fun activities.

Individual and team participants will receive the lowest registration prices online at www.eliteracing.com prior to Feb. 20.
