Comedy Women Who Steal

** Women Who Steal is a comedy loaded with wit and wisdom about a wild mid-life joy ride of revenge and renewal in search of the truth about love and marriage. San Diego City Dance Company

** Vive L’Amour! features the San Diego City Dance Company and guest performers in a sparkling dance extravaganza from Friday, January 30 through Sunday, February 15 at Balboa Park’s Casa del Prado Theatre. Vive L’Amour! expresses care and affection between loving individuals, as well as the importance of goodwill towards people worldwide. Call the box office at 702-3408 for tickets or more details.

Flamenco Guitarist Paco de Lucia

** Widely renowned for introducing flamenco to a worldwide audience guitarist Paco de Lucia, embarked on a 22-city tour throughout North America from January 20, which will continue thru February 29. He will perform at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido on Saturday, January 31. With his 27th release of Cositas Buenas de Lucia once again reinvents flamenco.

Gospel Singer Mahalia Jackson

** “Mahalia” is a celebration of the life of the world’s greatest gospel singer, Mahalia Jackson. This play with music will run every weekend in February in commemoration of Black History Month. She was the voice beside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, during the Civil Rights Movement. Performances are scheduled Friday & Saturday nights at 8p.m. Donation of $12.00 general is appreciated. Community Actors Theatre located at 2957 54th Street in San Diego.

Workshops at the Community Actors Theatre

** The Community Actors Theatre will conduct workshops on Saturday, February 7th & 14 from 12 noon to 4 pm. On the effects of tobacco and second hand smoke. The culminating activity will be a Festival on Saturday, February 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are asking all of San Diego to honor “Smoke Free Sabbath” by refraining from smoking on that day. The Festival will take place in the Parking Lot of Community Actors Theatre. Some of the activities will also be held inside the theatre. There will be free information, brochures, posters, key chains, t-shirts, food and free entertainment by local actors. Theatre is located at 2957 54th Street in San Diego.

Top Speed

** Balboa Park – MacGillivray Freeman’s newest IMAX adventure, TOP SPEED, is a fast-paced, light-hearted and at times hair-rising look at the science of speed and why and how humans keep going faster and faster. The high-adrenaline film opens at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on today, in Balboa Park. TOP SPEED enters the lives of four uncommonly fast individuals who take daring risks. Among them are Olympic medallist Marion Jones, mountain biking champ Marla Streb, rising racecar sensation Lucas Ruhr and a high performance car designer Stephen Murkett. Audiences will also meet blind eleven-year old junior bob-sledder, Blaise Bryant who dreams of one day racing in the Olympics.

Adding a new comic dimension to the classic giant screen experience, TOP SPEED has its own tour guide: popular film and television star Tim Allen, who invites audiences to join him on a fun-filled, thoughtful introduction to life as a speed-demon. Allen, who is himself a racecar driver and designer, meets each of these world-class athletes and racing professionals on their own turf, Allen gets a chance to run, jump, steer and fly with the best of them. 1812 Private Lynx

** 1812 Private Lynx visits the Maritime Museum February 14-16, and you’ll have a chance to experience the Thrill of 19th Century Combat at Sea. Lynx is a magnificent representation of an early 19th privateer. Privateers were the first ships to defend the US when Royal Navy warships blockaded American ports during the War of 1812. Cannon battle reenactments take place from 1-4PM Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for children 12 and under. Dockside tours are included with admission to the maritime museum. Open Audition at PureFitness Bonita Athletic Club

** The San Diego Riptide will be holding an open audition on Saturday, Feb. 21 at PureFitness Bonita Athletic club, 690 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista.
