Prop 1A the so call "California Indian Self- Reliance Amendment" is a sham and a fraud. It has little to do with Indians and everything to do with opening the door for organized Chicago-style crime syndicates to infiltrate and take over the lucrative gambling operations in the state,
PROP. 5 was passed in November 1998 election, by the voters, authorizing Indian casinos. The Tribal leaders made much of the issue of "keeping out the Las Vegas gambling interests and corrupting Indian Casinos." Later PROP 5 was declared unconstitutional because "IT WOULD PERMIT NEVADA-NEW JERSEY TYPE CASINOS"! These are operations that are notorious for being controlled by organized crime syndicates.
Prop 1A, on the other hand, is a Legislative Constitutional Amendment placed on the ballot by our Legislators. The Amendment does not require the Governors signature and only requires a simple majority vote of the people (50% plus 1 vote). It is an effort to amend the State Constitution that, in part still states " The legislature has no power to authorize casinos of the type currently operating in Nevada and New Jersey.
Strangely enough some of the Indian Tribes have already contracted with organized gambling casinos from Nevada to OPERATE their casinos. The door is opened for infiltration into our state of organized crime syndicates to take over all gambling on federally recognized Indian tribes on Indian lands in California.
The strange silence by Tribal Spokesmen who railed and lobbied, in the past, "to stop the Nevada interests from torpedoing their efforts is strange. Their actions will make Prop 1A unconstitutional! They have invited Nevada interests in to the reservations. They will bring big bucks into the equation and big money corrupts as we have seen over and over again.
PROP 1A will bring gambling into our state to higher levels which will corrupt our state. Unfortunately it is those who can least afford to be fleeced by corrupt casinos that will be lured to the casinos. Gambling is a sickness that can destroy. It is immoral and degrades human kind.
