The Dolores Huerta Scholarship for Graduate Studies at SDSU

On the 469th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgen de Guadalupe in Mexico, the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies has formally established a scholarship to honor the life work of Dolores, Vice President and Co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown outstanding service to the Mexicano and Latino community along with demonstrated academic excellence at SDSU.

The scholarship will assist a student who wants to attend graduate school at SDSU. A priority will be given to a student who is pursuing an advanced degree in an area that will contribute to improving the quality of life for our children and community.

Initial funds for this scholarship were raised at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Department on December 8, 2000. More than $5000 dollars were raised at this event drawn from donations made by the SDSU administration, faculty, students, alumni, and community organizations. Donations to this fund will be acknowledged at the first award ceremony scheduled for December 1, 2001.

Donations may be submitted by check made out to the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies, SDSU, San Diego, Ca. 92182-8130. For more information please call Professor Griswold del Castillo, Chair of the department.
