The San Diego County Ford Dealers are offering 250 $1,000.00 scholarships to San Diego County high school seniors through the San Diego County Salute to Education program. In addition, one scholarship recipient will also win a brand new Ford vehicle.
In its four year history, San Diego County Salute to Education has awarded over $1.1 million and three new vehicles to graduating high schools seniors.
"The San Diego County Ford Dealers are pleased to provide financial assistance for graduating seniors to continue their educations," said Mark Wheeler, Owner of Encinitas Ford and Chairman of the 2001-2002 San Diego County Salute to Education scholarship program. "Salute to Education is designed to assist mainstream students of all scholastic levels and does not focus exclusively on academic standouts. Our program enables young men and women to continue educational pursuits whether it be trade school, junior college or a full four year program at a college or university."
Salute to Education is open to any high school senior who resides in San Diego County and attends an accredited San Diego County public or private school, is eligible to graduate in 2002, and has not received a full four year scholarship to attend a college or university.
Academic achievement is considered, but is not the sole factor in determining scholarship recipients. Applicants are also evaluated on community service, category recognition, goals, autobiography, faculty recommendation and judge's recommendation.
Scholarships will be awarded in arts, athletics, foreign language, general, language arts, mathematics, performing arts, science, social science and vocational/technical to assist the local seniors form throughout San Diego County in continuing their educations at technical/vocational schools, junior college or universities.
Applications are available from high school counselors, all San Diego County Ford dealers and on the website at www.salutetoeducation.com. The application deadline is February 22, 2002.
