The Ninth Annual La Posada Sin Fronteras is planned from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at Border Field State Park in Imperial Beach Methodist Bishop Maryann Swenson will preside at the event, which commemorates Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter on Christmas Eve.
“The traditional posada story, to be retold in song by participants on both sides of the border, is a reminder of our gospel call to hospitality for the stranger and newcomer,” Brother Ed Dunn, community organizer for the Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights, said. As part of the celebration, the names of those who have died crossing the US/Mexico border this year will be read.
The coalition co-sponsors the event, together with the Catholic Diocese of San Diego, American Friends Service Committee, Ecumenical Council of San Diego County, Peace Resource Center, the Southern California/Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ, and the Immigration Ministry Team of the Pacifica Lutheran Synod. Co-sponsors in Tijuana include Casa del Migrante, Casa YMCA De Menores Migrantes, El Centro Madre Assunta, Centro De Pastoral Migratoria, Frailes Franciscanos, and Procuraduría De Los Derechos Humanos.
