Special Holiday Activities At CV Rec. Centers

Visits from Santa, winter crafts and gifts, and special day camps are among the holiday activities planned at Chula Vista’s recreation centers during December. In addition, several centers are offering special daytime or evening activities for children, giving their parents time to complete holiday shopping or gift-wrapping.

Holiday Hoops, Dec. 16: A free basketball event is slated for youth ages 7-17 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Parents’ Night Out & Santa’s Workshop, Dec .9: Kids from age six and up can enjoy an evening of fun activities and games, craft/gift making, and snacks while their parents finish up their shopping. Scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m., the cost is $10 per child for the event and crafts range from free up to $2 each.

Parents’ Night Out, Dec. 9 and 16: Parents can get last minute holiday shopping done from 6 to 10 p.m. while children ages five and up enjoy an evening of crafts, a movie, games and dinner. Cost is $10 per child.

Santa’s Workshop, Dec 9: Children of all ages can make a gift or ornament for 50 cents per project from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Ceramics Make & Take, Dec. 10: Children ages six and older can paint a ceramic item for the holidays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 per child and includes all supplies.

Santa is Coming to Loma Verde Center, Dec. 16: Children can give Santa their last minute list from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Free candy canes will be given to everyone. Parents, remember to bring your cameras.

Holiday Brunch, Dec 16: Seniors can enjoy brunch cooked by the senior center staff along with holiday entertainment and door prizes beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pre-event tickets of $3 are on sale now.

Old Fashioned Holiday Sing-a-long, Dec. 22: Holiday music, singing and special refreshments for seniors begins at 11 a.m.

New Year’s Dance, Dec 30: Seniors may celebrate the New Year early with music, dancing and refreshments starting at 1 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door. (Note that this is not a New Year’s Eve dance.)

Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 17: Children up to 12 years old and their parents can make holiday crafts, visit with Santa Claus, and enjoy a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. This party costs $2 for kids and $4 for adults; advance tickets are required and are on sale.

Candy Cane Guess, Dec. 1-16: Kids ages 5 to 14 can guess how many candy canes are in the jar to win them all. The winner of this free event will be announced on Dec. 16.

Santa’s Story Time Workshop, Dec. 9, 16: Holiday stories or a video are featured along with a craft at these free events from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for children ages 5 to 12.

Holiday Day Camp, Dec. 19-23 and Dec.26-30: An array of activities, projects and games are planned for these two five-day holiday camps for children ages 5 to 14. The fee is $92 for residents per session and $115 for non-residents; extended care is available for an extra fee.

Santa Shuffle Holiday Dance, Dec. 10: Holiday music, dancing and refreshments are scheduled at Norman Park Center, 270 F St. from 7- 9 p.m. Therapeutics Section members are free, residents $5, and non-residents $6.

St. Nick’s Bowling Party, Dec. 11: Join the Sunday Leisure Bowling group from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for a day of holiday fun. The party will be held at Brunswick Premier Lanes, 845 Lazo Court. The cost is $6 for Therapeutics Section members, $9 for residents and $12 for non-residents.

Holiday Shopping at Plaza Bonita, Dec. 20: Meet in front of Applebee’s Restaurant, 3030 Plaza Bonita Rd., at 6:45 p.m. for this Club LV, Young Adult Club Outing that is set until 9 p.m. Bring spending money for gifts.
