The 6th Annual Health Extravaganza to be held at the Educational Cultural Complex (ECC) located at 4343 Ocean View Blvd. This even is free and open to the public!! Children’s Hospital, Sharp Healthcare, Scripps Hospital, and Paradise Valley Hospital will all be attending the event and giving Free Health Screenings and giving our Free Information. The extravaganza will be held Saturday, August 23, 2003, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
“It is going to be a great event, a real contribution to the maintenance and development of a healthier and more informed community,” explained N. Diane Moss, co-director of Project New Village (PNV) and the event’s principal organizer.
Ms. Moss went on to explain how this is gathering is a community-driven effort geared to involve residents in learning about and then addressing the racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
“Of all the major health challenges, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity as well as cardiovascular disease, persons of color are more likely to suffer disproportionately.”
The Health Extravaganza is a part of the Community Wellness Campaign of Project New Village, a community based collaborative with an eight-year history of mobilizing, organizing and providing service in southeastern San Diego.
In addition to the provision of information, there will be professionals on hand to provide various health-related screening, multi-cultural entertainment, raffles, giveaways and healthy food. So, please plan to bring your family, a blanket and picnic basket and join us as we continue “working together for healthier community.”
