Cultural Arts Office/Carlsbad Offers Grants For Projects

The Cultural Arts Office/City of Carlsbad invites applications for its annual Community Arts Grants Program. Funds for the Grants Program amount to $24,000 for the year 2004. The Grants Program award funding to not-for-profit organizations, schools and school-related organizations and to visual, media, literary and performing artists for projects taking place in Carlsbad. The grant applications submission deadline is Monday, October 20, 2003. Four Grant Application Workshops will be held; new applicants are strongly urged to attend a workshop.

The Community Arts Grants Program is designed to help strengthen local arts organizations and to provide cultural and artistic opportunities for Carlsbad citizens. Funds are only awarded for projects occurring in Carlsbad in the year 2004. All individual artists and those arts organizations located elsewhere in San Diego County must have a Carlsbad non-profit organization or school as a partner to host the proposed activity. Announcement of awarded grants will occur by mid-December. Grants Available For Youth Programs

Application Deadline - September 19, 2003

City Council has authorized the Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with the Parks & Recreation and Youth Commissions, to recommend distribution of $16,000 by way of a standard grant process. The funding comes from the City’s agreement with Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc. and is specifically allocated for youth projects, programs and events in the City of Oceanside, to directly benefit Oceanside youth.

Two grant opportunities are available: (1) the Parks & Recreation Commission’s “Opportunities for Youth”, which is designated for any youth service provider with a nonprofit status based out of Oceanside and that serves the youth of Oceanside; and (2), the Youth Commission’s “For Youth By Youth”, which is exclusively for youth programs that are initiated and carried out by youth and that serves the youth of Oceanside.

Funds will be distributed beginning January 2004. The applications can be picked up beginning Friday, August 15, 2003 in the Parks & Recreation Administration Office at 302 North Coast Highway. For an application or for more information please call (760) 435-5041.
