Rosalia Salinas, a Senior Director in the Learning Resources and Educational Technology Division at the San Diego County Office of Education, will be honored at a retirement luncheon on Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Shelter Pointe Hotel & Marina on Shelter Island.
Salina’s 27 years as a statewide advocate for English learners included accomplishments at the state and community levels, at the County Office of Education, within the Bilingual Education Unit of SDCOE, and in county school districts. The Sweetwater Union High School district Student Mariachi Chula Vista Group will perform at the retirement.
Salinas is a statewide leader, serves on the board of Californians Together: A Voice for Educational Access for English Learners. She served as president of the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), overseeing the group’s annual conference in San Diego that drew 13,000.
In appreciation of her vision and commitment the CABE Conference Parent Hospitality room was renamed “The Rosalia Salinas Parent Hospitality Room.” During her tenure as President of CABE parent conferences were established across the state. Her leadership and advocacy have contributed toward policies impacting students in California. To this end she has testified before the state legislature on issues of educational equity.
