Community Notes:

Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office Offers Grants for Projects

The City of Carlsbad’s Cultural arts office invites applications for its annual community Arts Grants program. Funds totaling $24,000 will be awarded in matching grants for cultural projects taking place within the City of Carlsbad in the year 2005. The grant application deadline is Monday, October 25, 2004. Announcement of awarded grants will occur by December 23, 2004.

The community Arts Grants program is designed to help strengthen local arts organizations and to provide cultural and artistic opportunities for Carlsbad citizens. Community Arts Grants award funding for projects taking place in Carlsbad to non-profit organizations, schools and school-related organizations and to visual, media, literary and performing artists. All individual artists and those arts organizations located elsewhere in San Diego county must have a Carlsbad non-profit organization or school as a partner to host the proposed activity.

There are two categories of Community Arts grants: an applicant organization, school or individual may submit a proposal in only one category. “Organization/Artist Partnerships” fund events, activities and projects presented for the general population. Grants usually range from $500 to $3,000, though there is no limit to the amount an applicant may request. “Arts Education” funds school-based projects for K-12 students, and requests are limited to a maximum of $1,000

Grants Available For Youth Programs

Total funding available for this fiscal year is $11,000 in the Opportunities for Youth grant program and $10,000 in the For Youth By Youth grant program.

The applications can be picked up beginning Thursday, August 12, 2004, in the Parks & Recreation administration office at 300 North Coast Highway. Additionally, applications will be available on the Oceanside Web site at http://www.ci.oceanside.ca.us/Recreation.
