Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Management; New Course Offered at Grossmont College

EL CAJON - Grossmont College announces a new hospitality and tourism management program designed for individuals interested in pursing careers in San Diego’s third largest industry. The introductory three-unit course is Business 158, which provides an overview of the travel industry. It begins August 29 and will be held Thursday 7 p.m. – 9:50 p.m., through December 19.

This survey course is also part of a new major, Culinary Entrepreneurship, which is designed to prepare those who wish to enter the culinary field as a manager or owner of a business such as a restaurant, food service in regional casinos, bed and breakfast enterprises, catering businesses and personal chef.

“Tourism is still a major employer in the San Diego region, even after the events of last September 11,” said Grossmont College President Ted Martinez, Jr. “We are positioned to help students pursue mid-level management careers in any of the various travel industry sectors, which include hotels, airlines, travel agencies, or food and beverage operations.”

Students have several career-path options in this exciting field: they may earn a certificate of completion in Hospitality and Tourism Management; they may complete the program of study and requirements for an associate degree in business; and they may transfer their credits to earn a four-year degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at San Diego State University.
