Friendship Park

Roberto Limón, an internationally-known guitarist, will present a FREE concert on August 14 in Friendship Park at 6 p.m. He will perform the Concerto for Classical Guitar and Jazz Trio by the French composer Claude Bolling. The park is located at Fourth and F St., next to the Civic Center Branch Library. For further information call 691-5161.

Treasure Hunt at Pool

City of Chula Vista’s Park Way Pool is offering a ‘dive-in-movie’ night on August. 15 and a treasure hunt with diving for coins on August 30. Dive-In movie starts at 7:30 pm., free juice and popcorn will be available as families watch the Disney movie, “Atlantis” from the pool. Admission is $1.50 for adults and $1 for children. Treasure Hunt: a watermelon eating contest and water balloon toss will be part of the festivities which begin at 3 p.m. Admission is $1.50 for adults and $1 for children. Art Gallery

Johhny Coleman’s installations are filled with ordinary objects that make gallery spaces seem more like dreamscapes. In “Song of the Landscape for Nyima,” the one-man exhibition at the William D. Cannon Art Gallery will be on view August 11 - September 29. Coleman will work at the Gallery for several days before his show opens to create his all-encompassing installation - complete with sounds of frogs recorded at a brook near his home. Summer Craft Fair

San Diego Civic Youth Ballet will sponsor their 13th annual summer craft fair August 10 at the Casa del Prado in Balboa Park from 9:00 - 5:00. No admission charge. Take Village Place off Park Blvd. Nearly 50 crafters will showcase their handmade crafts including soaps, candies, jewelry, pottery and more. Free Performance at the Bazaar del Mundo

Ecuadorian entertainment will be showcased at the Bazaar del Mundo with a free performance by the Guayas Navy Band during a special visit from the Tall Ship, “Guayas.” The performance will take place 12 to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 16 in the Bazaar’s courtyard. The 14-member band plays lively salsa music featuring drums, saxophones, trumpets guitars and singers. Call 296-3161 for more information.

The Man-In-Law

Critically acclaimed comedy-tragedy play that has played to sold out audiences in Guyana, South America will be playing to San Diego audiences September 13-15 at Spreckels Theater. The Man-In-Law has a universal theme of the complexities of love, marriage, power and the consequences of infidelity. Tickets are available at TicketMaster by calling (619) 220-TIXS.

“Tuesday Tunes in the Park”

Summer afternoons in Balboa Park just got a melodious boost, as the Spreckels Organ Society announces free Tuesday tunes in the park during the month of August. Tuesday Tunes in the Park gives visitors an opportunity to hear lighter musical fare on the world’s largest outdoor pipe organ played by the San Diego Civic Organist Carol Williams. These half-hour programs will begin at 1:30 p.m. on August 6, 13, 20 & 27.

The Manhattan Transfer to Perform

On August 9 & 10, the San Diego Symphony Summer Pops welcomes the internationally acclaimed jazz vocal ensemble The Manhattan Transfer for two performances at Navy Pier. The concerts will feature their hits such as “Route 66,” “Choo Choo Ch’Boogie,” and “Until I Met You (Corner Pocket).” Single ticket prices range from $15-$59 and are available by calling the Symphony ticket office at (619) 233-0804.
