Free Reconstructive Surgery for Children Disfigured by Dog Bites

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, Inc. is launching a nationwide search for children disfigured as a result of dog bites. Fresh Start Surgical Gifts is an international, non-profit organization that provides free reconstructive surgery to children without financial means.

A 10-year study has shown that the number of dog bites rose 36%, while the number of dogs kept as pets increased by only 2%. There are close to 5 million people bitten by dogs every year —and more than half of the victims are children, most of whom are bitten in the face. "Our goal is to reach those children in need of reconstructive surgery who fall through the cracks of the legal and medical system. With the help of reconstructive surgery, these children will be able to lead a life without the embarrassment of disfigurements," stated Martin Davis, CEO of Fresh Start Surgical Gifts.

Fresh Start targets primarily children without financial means who suffer from physical deformities caused by birth defects, accidents, abuse or disease. To date, Fresh Start has performed surgical procedures valued at over $6,000,000 benefiting many children from around the United States and worldwide. Fresh Start Surgical Gifts has chapters in California, Tennessee and India.
