CCC Sets April 28 Grand Opening Celebration in National City

The California Conservations Corps' San Diego Service District will celebrate the grand opening of its new facility in National City on Friday, April 28.

The new location, at 401 West 35th Street in National City, is the base of operations for the CCC in serving San Diego and Imperial Counties.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening celebration. The 11 am ceremony will be emceed by Channel's 10 Jack White. State CCC Director H. Wes Pratt will serve as keynote speaker. The celebration will also feature a fire fighting display, CCC exhibits and tours of the building.


Cartoonist Set Blood Drive for 12 Year Old Leukemia Patient Who Is A Gifted Artist

"Drawing" blood donations is what members of the Southern California Cartoonist Society hope to do for 12 year old Chelsea Chamness on Saturday, April 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all five locations of the San Diego Blood Bank. Recently Chelsea, a gifted artist, was diagnosed with leukemia and needs blood transfusion to keep her healthy until she can receive a bone marrow transplant. During the event cartoonist will "draw" donors' caricatures after the nurses take a pint.


Wanted: Chili Cooks, The Hotter the Better

On Saturday, May 20 at Veterans Park, amateur and professional chili chefs gather to create San Diego County's largest chili cook-off and jazz festival. The Chili & Jazz Association, the not-for-profit volunteer organization wants all chili cooks around to sign up as contestants.

Contestant's chili is judged by a panel of celebrity judge who award $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

Olmos to Speak April 24 in RIMAC Arena as Part of a Hate Free Campus Campaign

Edward James Olmos will speak at 7 pm. April 24 in RIMAC Arena at the University of California, San Diego as part of a proclamation event for a Hate Free Campus Campaign.

Tickets to see Olmos are $5 for UCSD students, and $10 for general admission.


Urban League's Annual Career Fair

The San Diego Urban League's Annual Career Fair is happening April 28th from 10 am until 4 pm in Golden Hall at the San Diego Concourse, 202 C Street, downtown San Diego. More than 100 employers will be on hand to interview candidates for all types of positions, from entry-level clerical jobs to engineering positions.
