Rumba Room

Tivoli’s Bar presents Rumba Room featuring live Afro-Cuban music and dance every Thursday night, starting at 9:00 p.m. Rumba Room features live performances by Omo Ache. Spring Celebration

Charlie Brown

Based on the comic strip series by Charles Shultz, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” can be seen at the Casa del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park from April 19th to May 5th. Louise Leakey to Present Her Findings

The San Diego Museum of Man will present Dr. Louise Leakey, a renowned paleoan-thropologist who represents the third generation of the famed Leakey family, 2 p.m., Saturday, April 20.

Dr. Leakey and her mother, Dr. Meave Leakey, have continued to recover important hominid and faunal remains, most notably the remarkable discovery of a 3.5 million-year-old skull and jaw. The event is $20 for the general public. For further information, call 239-2001.

Don Pasquale at Civic Theatre

There’s no fool like an old fool, as the crotchety old miser Don Pasquale proves when he decides to take a young wife. She proceeds to drive him to distraction and his life becomes something out of the Jerry Springer show. Don Pasquale opens Saturday, April 20 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. Modern Dance Sensation

Doug Varone & Dancers makes its San Diego Debut at UC San Diego on Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in UCSD’s Mandeville Auditorium. Admission is $22.00 for general admission, $20 senior citizens and students are $15. Doug Varone has produced some of modern dances most engrossing works, emotionally eloquent, with daring physicality.

Varone and his company of nine dancers, have toured extensively throughout the U.S. and the world. All of the dancers exhibit extraordinary dynamism - an ability to hold on to the integrity of a physical line while moving at considerable speed, both as solo performers, as well as in partnering situations. The rich in talent Tchaikovsky Perm Ballet will dazzle San Diego audiences with their performances of Romeo and Juliet April 20 and Cinderella on April 21. Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre has been one of Russia’s most distinguished artistic companies since the mid 1920s. Searching for the Best Guitarist

San Diego will host a regional final where one lucky guitarist will advance to the grand finals held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The winner of the grand finals will claim the title of “Best Up and Coming Guitarist in the nation” and win a 2002 Mustang GT convertible and a limited edition Mustang Strat guitar courtesy of Ford Motor Company.

With five minutes to solo, the guitarists will face off at the Hard Rock Cafe on April 25 at 8:00 p.m. Tailoring their performance to a track of their choice from a CD containing original songs taken from Line 6’s new product Guitar Port, each contestant will be judged on musicality in song context, technique, dynamics, stage presence and originality. The night will be highlighted with a special performance by popular local band Wonka Bar. The Hard Rock Cafe is located at 801 4th Avenue, San Diego.
