Helix Water District’s Second Annual Kids Fish Free Day will be held Saturday, April 20, at Lake Jennings in Lakeside. Gates will open at 5:30 a.m. to welcome young fisherpersons to the anglers’ sport.
In celebration of Earth Day, all children under the age of 14 will fish free for the day, and any non-fishing adult who accompanies them will also be admitted free of charge.
The first 100 youngsters will receive a free Earth Day T-shirt. Each child will be given a ticket for the door-prize drawing to be held at 11 a.m. in Hermit Cove. Hundreds of fishing items will be given away, including tackle boxes, fishing rods, reels, and bait.
Hermit Cove will also be the venue for the late morning, free hotdog and soda BBQ.
Last year’s event saw a perfect day at the lake enjoyed by more than 300 people, many of whom had never fished. Just like last year, Helix Water District employee-volunteers will be on hand to assist the novices with the basics of stringing lines and baiting hooks.
Lake Jennings is at 9535 Harritt Road, Lakeside, Calif., 92040. For more information about the event, call: (619) 443-1031 ext. 404.
