Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has announced the appointment of San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board Member Charlene Zettel as director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Zettel was appointed to the Airport Authority Board in December 2002 for a two-year term by the mayors of inland north San Diego County cities. She has left the Airport Authority Board to take over her new responsibilities in Sacramento.
In 1988, Zettel became the first Republican Latina elected to the State Assembly, where she brought a background in health, education and business. Zettel was born, raised and attended school in Los Angeles. She graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene. Prior to being elected to the State Assembly, she was a dental hygienist for over 20 years and has also owned and managed over 300 rental units. Ms. Zettel was elected to two terms on the Poway Unified School District school board, where she also served as chairwoman. Zettel is from Poway, CA.
“I look forward to working with Governor Schwarzenegger to maintain the highest standards for all goods and services provided in the state,” said Zettel. “I am honored that he has asked me to return to public service in this important role.”
“Charlene has been a valuable member of the Airport Authority Board, representing the interests of inland North County as well as the broader interests of the San Diego region,” said Joseph W. Craver, Chairman of the Airport Authority Board. “Her active participation and contributions to the work of the Board will be missed. We wish her well and offer her our congratulations on her important new appointment in Sacramento.”
