2nd Annual Scholarship Breakfast to be held on January 13th
WHAT: Southwestern College (SWC) African American Alliance is proudly hosting the 2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. The event will feature keynote speakers: Tony Young, San Diego City Councilmem-ber, 4th District and SWC Alumni Inez Odom, SWC Telemedia Instructor, who was instrumental in developing the documentary, Eye on the Prize. The keynote speakers will articulate their views on “Keeping the Dream Alive.”
The breakfast is to honor Dr. King’s legacy, to remember the civil rights movement and to teach how this rich history impacts lives today. Additionally, scholarships will be presented to selected Southwestern College students who have entered an essay writing contest.
Dr. King was a fundamental figure of the modern era. His lectures and dialogues stirred concern and sparked the conscience of a generation. He led movements and marches that ultimately brought significant changes to the foundation of American life through his courage and selfless devotion. Dr. King’s dedication and commitment gave direction to thirteen years of civil rights activities in this country. The College will celebrate and honor his legacy.
