Serra Cooperative Library System is pleased to announce that it will be presenting a free forum entitled Library Border Issues: Exploring Common Interests/Expanding Opportunities on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. This event will actually be a pre-conference to a TransBorder Library Forum that is slated to take place in Tijuana, March 4-6. This will be one of the first opportunities of the year to share ideas on bilingual and literary issues to network and gain awareness through this important event.
“I’m very excited that the California State Library is able to support this great event. I look forward to meeting others willing to explore transborder issues as they present many potential opportunities,” says Gerry Maginnity, Bureau Chief of the California State Library’s Library Development Services (LDS).
Isabel Schon of the Isabel Schon International Center for Spanish Books for Youth and José Aponte, Director of the San Diego County Library, will be featured speakers. In addition there will be a presentation on the statewide Dia de los Ninos/El Dia de los Libros LSTA funded project by the coordinator, Oralia Garza de Cortes. Panels of librarians will also present sessions addressing bilingual careers, bilingual and Spanish language programming, and collection development to just name a few of the valuable pieces of programming for this event. There will also be exhibit tables from LI-BROS, the San Diego Chapter of REFORMA, and a grant program for Spanish language books offered through the Mexican Consulate.
The all day event will be held at the Nestor-Otay Mesa Library. It runs from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The library is located at: 3003 Coronado Avenue, San Diego, CA 92154
