Veterans Recognition Ceremony

Assembly Member Lori Saldaña would like to invite you to submit nominations for the Veterans Recognition Ceremony.

Each Assembly Member has the opportunity to select one Veteran from their district who has made a significant contribution to the welfare of veterans. On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 the designee will be honored, recognized and presented with a certificate at the Veterans Recognition Luncheon in Sacramento.

If you know of an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the veterans’ community, please return the nomination form including a short biography to the District Office by April 22, 2009. First Time Homebuyer Education Class

-Course Fulfills Requirement for Government Assistance Programs-

WHAT: The Neighborhood House Association’s Housing Counseling program is hosting a First Time Homebuyer Education Class to provide first time homebuyers with the knowledge and confidence needed when purchasing their first home.

This class fulfills the requirement for potential buyers to utilize government assistance programs such as the down payment, closing costs and shared equity programs. The class will provide education and counseling on budgeting for a home purchase, finding a home, shopping for a loan and caring for a home.

WHERE: Neighborhood House Association’s Social Services location, 841 South 41st St., San Diego, CA 92113

WHEN: Saturday, May 2, 2009, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHY: Neighborhood House Association (NHA) Housing Counseling Program is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved counseling agency and is dedicated to providing families with the knowledge, awareness and resources related to all housing issues.

WHO: NHA housing counselors; San Diego realtors; San Diego County residents learning about buying their first home.

COCA-Cola Youth Mini Grants

The City of Oceanside will not be awarding Coca-Cola Mini Grants for youth serving organizations in 2009-10. The revenue generated from City Coca-Cola machines will be used to financially assist individual Oceanside youth to participate in Parks & Recreation programs and services. Coca-Cola monies are specifically designed to serve youth in Oceanside and have served thousands of deserving agencies through the Mini Grant Program. If you know an Oceanside youth whose family might benefit from financial assistance to allow their child to attend classes please contact Jamie Boatright in the Parks & Recreation Division at (760) 435-5041 or view the application process online at www.ci.oceanside.ca.us.


9th Annual Day of the Child Community Fair – April 25, 2009

The Chula Vista Community Collaborative, supported by the City of Chula Vista, and in collaboration with other community-based organizations and business sponsors, is proud to present the 9th Annual Day of the Child Community FUN Fair. The event’s theme is Children’s Opportunities, Our Responsibilities. This free family event will provide resources to keep children safe, healthy and well informed of services in the community. The event focuses on providing a safer and healthier environment for young people by promoting family/community togetherness. There will be plenty of fun activities such as entertainment, face painting, performers, dance contests, puppets, magic show, story time, games and much more. The event will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Park on 3rd Avenue and Park Way in Chula Vista.
