The 13th Annual North Park Festival of the Arts

North Park – If a day of arts & culture and good old-fashioned family fun is what you are looking for, then look no further than the 13th Annual North Park Festival of the Arts! The best news is that this celebration of the arts and cultural diversity is completely FREE!!! That’s right, on Sunday, May 17th, 2009 from 10:00 AM through 6:00 PM on University between 30th and 32nd Street, this free event will offer something for everyone including breathtaking visual arts, four stages of live entertainment, remarkable vendor booths, an educational and fun children’s area, tantalizing food & drinks and of course artisans from around the globe.

The North Park Festival of the Arts invites you to explore the over 100 specialty and vendors booths where you can discover amazing hand made and unique items because in addition to the vendors you’ve come to know and love, new this year, the North Park Festival of the Arts is excited to present the “San Diego North Park Craft Mafia” who will be purveying their amazing products in over 50 booths. The craft mafia is a super crafty bunch of cool chicks making funky and trendy items DIY. The neighborhood of North Park is known for rich culture and international cuisines and that is just what you will find at the International Food Court where you can indulge your taste buds in a smorgasbord of tantalizing treats. We are also excited to invite patrons who are over 21 to get a ticket to this year’s Festival of Beers and expose your palate to samples of the finest micro-breweries in San Diego.

Once you’ve done some shopping and had some tasty treats, make sure to stop by one of four stages of entertainment including the Main Stage so you can rock out to some of San Diego’s hottest live bands like “The Shambles”, “The Anna Troy Band”, “Transfer” and more! Enjoy global sounds at the World Music Stage, which features an amazing collection of performances from every corner of the earth including: Ghanaian, Iranian, Balinese, Anatolian Greek folk, Japanese Koto, American Dulcimer, Irish flute, Finnish Folk and African beats. Make sure that you check out the exciting and eclectic entertainment from the Beats & Eats Stage for everything from folk/punk to classical guitar, light rock, progressive jazz, rock and punk. There is even beat-boxing and a drag show! And of course, everyone loves the Dance Stage where you can shake your bootie with local dance troupes from all over San Diego County.

The North Park Festival of the Arts is truly a family event. Not only is there family-friendly food, entertainment and shopping, but you’ll also love watching your little one get lost in the excitement of the Kid’s Art Beat Area where they will learn what it is to become little artists in their own rite. Each child will have a chance to try their hands at a variety of interactive arts activities at Art Produce Gallery, where they can shape their own works of art and view demonstrations by professionals. And if that’s not enough, the “Sophia Isadora Academy of Circus Arts” will amaze and delight as these child acrobats dazzle the audience with their intricate aerial art, unique flexibility and talented circus acts!
