Make a Difference in the Fight Against Cancer at Relay For Life

The American Cancer So-ciety’s National City’s Relay For Life is scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, August 9-10 at Kimball Park. Relay For Life is a 24-hour campout and walk-a-thon that empowers the community to take part in the fight against cancer while honoring its survivors and remembering loved ones lost to the disease.

Volunteers are needed to serve on committees for entertainment, logistics, team recruitment, luminaria, publicity, accounting and sponsorship development. There are a variety of sponsorship opportunities for local businesses, both large and small.

The basic idea behind Relay is to keep at least one team member moving on the track during the entire 24-hour period. The event has the ambiance of a youth group camp-out, with teams competing to decorate their campsites. Entertainment and activities for all ages are scheduled throughout the day and night.

Volunteers and interested sponsors can call (619) 682-7423 or visit www.events.cancer.org/rflnationalcity.

Community Comes Together for the San Diego River Mural Project July 25-28, 2008

The San Diego River Park Foundation is marking the construction of the newest mile of the San Diego River Trail with a mural project that celebrates the San Diego River while engaging the community in stewardship of this historically important and culturally significant waterway.

July 25th- 28th local professional artists will collaborate with volunteers to create a mural that showcases the San Diego River’s natural beauty and appeal. The Project is made possible by the River Park Foundation’s Corporate Partners Program. Volunteers are invited to join the fun by contacting the River Park Foundation office.

This newest mural project, which will take place along the river at 4835 Pacific Highway, marks the third in a series of murals commissioned by the San Diego River Park Foundation. With the creation of murals, the San Diego River Park Foundation seeks to reconnect the community with the river through art that displays the river’s natural beauty and promotes awareness of our namesake river.

The San Diego River Mural Project offers a fun and fulfilling way to get involved in the community and make a difference. The project is part of the San Diego River Park Foundation’s Community Enhancement Program and its efforts to engage people in celebrating and caring for the San Diego River.
