From Eklutna, Alaska and Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, runners will take the journeys for peace and dignity, honoring sacred sites and fulfilling an indigenous prophecy to heal our Nations. “A re-unification of all Nations through the journeys of the human spirit” is in the prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor. Culminating in the sacred womb of the Panama Canal on November 13, 2008, runners will come to, and have a stay at, our very own Chicano Park on July 23, 2008, arriving at about 6pm.
According to Joe Lara, there will be a gathering at Chicano Park in San Diego, CA, on July 23rd at about 5pm since the run from Pala Reservation to Chicano Park and San Ysidro Border to Chicano Park tributary will begin at around 6am on the same day.
Lara is asking people to arrive at Chicano Park at 5pm on July 23rd as the runners should be arriving by 6 pm. He announces that there will be Danza Azteca and the Red Warrior Drummers and requests that the greeters bring something to share for July 23rd since it’s a potluck.
The schedule into San Diego is as follows:
July 21 Anaheim to Cahuilla Reservation
July 22 Cahuilla to Santa Ysabel Reservation to Pala Reservation
July 23* Pala Reservation to Chicano Park and San Ysidro Border to Chicano Park tributary
July 24 Rest Day no running
July 25 Chicano Park to Manzanita Reservation
July 26 Manzanita to El Centro
July 27 El Centro to Quechan Nation - Yuma, AZ
Prior to welcoming the runners, a fundraiser for the Peace and Dignity Journeys will be held on July 22nd from 5:30 - 8:30 pm at the home of Olivia Puentes Reynolds: 8741 Tommy Dr., San Diego, 92119. It’s a night of music and poetry and an opportunity to meet some of the runners and its a $15 donation for adults.
