SBUSD Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee call for Applicants

IMPERIAL BEACH — The South Bay Union School District (SBUSD) is currently seeking applications from qualified individuals interested in serving on its Independent Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee to oversee the expenditure of the recently approved Proposition X, a $59.4 million school safety and repair bond. This committee will communicate its findings to the Board and the public to ensure that school bond funds are invested as the voters intended, and that the construction projects are completed wisely and efficiently.

The bond measure will completely modernize seven of the District’s twelve elementary schools, which are eligible for state matching funds, as well as improve windows, replace sewers and remodel bathrooms at the remaining five school sites within the District. Four other District projects are included in the modernization proposal: VIP Village Preschool, the District’s Education Center, Facilities/Transportation Facility and the District’s Purchasing/Child Nutrition Facility.

The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee will consist of a minimum of seven members to serve for a term of two years, without compensation, and for no more than two consecutive terms. Members of the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee will be appointed by the governing board of the school district from a list of candidates submitting written applications, and based on criteria established by Prop 39. Eligible applicants include SBUSD residents who represent the following categories: business representatives, senior citizen group representatives, tax payer organization members, parents of currently enrolled students, parents active in PTA and community members at large. Employees or officials of the District, vendors, contractors or consultants of the District are not eligible to serve on the committee.

Individuals interested in serving on South Bay Union School District’s Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee should submit their application form along with a copy of their resume no later than 5:00 p.m. on January 13, 2009 to: Scott Buxbaum, South Bay Union School District, 601 Elm Avenue, Imperial Beach, CA 91932 or fax to (619) 628-1608.
