Defendiendo Mi Cultura

an original student film about Activist Herminia Enrique’s ongoing fight to defend her culture

BestFest America, the largest student film festival in the country, announced its line-up of 54 award-winning films to be screened at the 2-day film festival in San Diego from August 16-17, 2008. The festival will run from noon to 10pm each day at the JCC’s Garfield Theater located at 4126 Executive Drive, La Jolla, CA 92037. This year over 500 students submitted their films for consideration from as far away as Bend University, Australia to as close to home as local college and high schools.

“Defendiendo Mi Cultura” is a 10-minute film about the life of Activist Herminia Enrique’s ongoing’ fight to defend her culture. This film was produced at the Media Arts Center in San Diego. Filmmakers include: Benjamin Garcia, Rafael Garcia, Jr., Madai Garduno, Joe Grizzle, Ray Grizzle, Argenis Herrera, Sonia Alvarado, Mary Wence.

The 54 award-winning short films being screened cross nine different genres: animation, comedy, commercials, drama, documentary, experimental, horror/thriller, music video and 48 Hours of Madness (student teams produced a film in 48 hours from an identical five-page script the weekend of March 7-9, 2008).
