The Academy of Radio & Television Broadcasting announced approval and accreditation for the world’s first Radio Broadcasting Online training program dedicated to Spanish-speaking applicants. A shortage of well-trained Spanish speaking broadcasters exists in the broadcasting industry, and this shortage is most evident in Spanish-speaking radio and TV.
The Academy has been serving the broadcasting community for the last 25 years, and was the first school to offer Professional Radio Training online in the Fall of 2006.
Since the launch of the online program, students from around the country have successfully completed their training online and are now working in the industry. It was only natural the Academy also offer training in Spanish, according to Tom King, President and CEO of the Academy.
“Students who are accepted into the program do all of their coursework in Spanish, including their on-air shows, newscasts and digital commercial production. The entire curriculum has been translated into Spanish, and the students are coached one-on-one in Spanish with their own Personal Instructor,” King added.
The growth of Spanish Radio and Television stations across the country has been monumental. In major media markets like Los Angeles, Dallas, Phoenix, Miami, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Kansas City, and Seattle, the Spanish share of the market is as much as 30% or more of the media outlets.
The Academy of Radio & Television Broadcasting has positioned itself to train and place Spanish speaking students in this large area of media growth.
Using the online program, students take the course from the comfort of their home, on their own computer, and do the work according to their own personal schedule. Participants have the ability to talk personally in real time with staff and instructors, participate in lecture and workshop discussions, and after graduation, the placement department helps graduates find jobs in radio nationally. Currently, the online placement is 100%.
