Community Notes:

Life Saving Event - Blood Drive for C.V.P.D. Officer’s Son

From Chula Vista Police Officer Juan Camacho:

Fourteen months ago my wife and I were blessed with twins, boy and girl. They were 2 1/2 months early and only weighed in at 2 lbs and 11 oz. Fortunately, and by the grace of God, they were both able to come home a month after birth and now weigh almost 20lbs, walking and talking.

Unfortunately, my son Lea-land, was diagnosed with a heart defect. The defect is called VSD, a Ventricular Septal Defect, basically a hole in the heart. Since they were born premature, Lealand’s heart did not fully develop. If it was not for that, he would be a normal healthy little boy.

He has been treated at Children’s for the past year with medications and monthly EKG’s. The doctors there have been nothing short of fantastic, but have determined that treatment is no longer an option because the hole is not going to close and he is going to need surgery. It consists of having an open heart surgery to go in close the hole. Doctors say it is a common surgery on premature babies and there is nothing to it. Still scary to the parents though.

My son is O+ and unfortunately I am A+. So he needs blood for surgery. I am asking anyone that is O+, if they are willing, to give up some blood. Even if you are not O+, or don’t know your type, you can still give and if my son does not use it then some other child at Children’s will. I mainly need males to donate for the plasma and platelets because they are compatible. Females are needed for the red blood cells.

On Friday September 14th, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the San Diego Blood Bank Bloodmobile will be in the main library parking lot at 365 F Street here in Chula Vista.

You can also schedule an appointment online by logging on to www.sandiegobloodbank. org and click on “appointments” and provide the sponsor code “CCVP.” You can also call the SD Blood Bank at 1-877-659-2001, find a location near you and inform them you would like to donate blood for my son.

You will need his information which is:

Thanks again!
The Camachos (Juan, Micaela, Lealand and Lilian)
