National City Plans Unique Twist to “State of the City”

Weeklong series of events encourages participation by community at-large

The City of National City has planned National City Week, a unique weeklong event beginning October 27, 2007 and leading up to a not-so-traditional State of the City Address on November 1, 2007. The six-day event will feature long-anticipated ceremonies, unveil-ings and celebrations, showcasing upcoming developments in National City. National City leadership is working with key community and business leaders to make National City Week and the State of the City, the first of its kind.

“National City Week is an all-inclusive community event, where residents will be able to observe what the City is doing for them.” said Mayor Ron Morrison. “The City Council and I want people to go out and experience the State of the City by seeing the services available to them first-hand.”

A theme has been assigned to each of the six days during National City Week. Highlights of the week include new developments coming to the City as well as Open Houses to Civic buildings. On Community Development Day, residents are invited to see the unveiling of the latest addition to Morgan Square and celebrate the ground breaking of the Marina Gateway Plaza, a development that will bring a new hotel, restaurant and retail space to the City’s flourishing bayfront. Public Safety and Technology Day will bring the community into Fire Station #34 to meet the de-partment’s newest members, paramedic Engine #31 and the new remote control fire dog. The library will host Education Day.
