La Mesa’s 34th Annual Oktoberfest kicks off at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5, and runs through the weekend, ending on Sunday, October 7 at 6 p.m. Oom–Pah Music will fill the Streets during the 3-day festival. Poet Amiri Baraka will be in San Diego at San Diego City College performing with the Gilbert Castellanos Quartet and Charles McPherson at 4:30pm in the Saville Theatre on Saturday, October 6th, as part of the Second Annual San Diego City College International Book Fair. Four great books that have been made into films will headline the Masters of Mystery Film Festival at the Chula Vista Public Library.
