Community Notes:

Southwest Association to meet at MAAC Center

The Southwest Chula Vista Civic Association, (which was organized to  provide a structured association for the residents, property owners, and business owners of the underrepresented Southwestern region of Chula Vista, to participate in the preservation, planning, development and protection of the unique character of the area through community education and group action) will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday May 31, 2007 at the MAAC Community Charter School at 1388 Third Ave, Chula Vista 91911. City Planner Ed Batchelder will join us for a discussion of what the new General Plan Update has planned for the Palomar Gateway area (both sides of Palo-mar Avenue to Anita between Industrial and Frontage) and West Fairfield (west of I-5, Palomar to Main Street). The developer of Bayview Walk (old Pumpkin Patch) will be present to discuss the Olsen Company’s project. The new owner of the Main Street peaker plant will be present to discuss doubling the size of the plant now located on Albany next to the Otay River. It is important that residents and property owners who will be effected by these proposed changes be present to voice their opinions.

Multicultural Health Fair

Oceanside-The Mission Meadows Elementary School, Vista Unified School District is presenting its first annual Health & Safety Multicultural Fair from 12:30-3:00 Saturday, June 2nd, 5657 Spur Avenue, Oceanside.

The Fair is free to the public and people of all ages are welcome to attend.

The event will spotlight the multicultural art that the students from grades Kindergarten through 5th have been accomplishing from the entire year.

Also, the fair will feature performances by local bands, Baile Folklorico dancers, and numerous agencies will distribute information and freebies.

Various food booths are sure to tempt the taste buds of all- capturing the pride of our multicultural community. Students will receive a passport to “travel around the world” (around our new PTA sponsored track & field) to get a stamp at each exhibit.

Los Romeros Concert to raise funds for scholarships

On June 3, 2007 at the Sherwood Auditorium, Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla, two of the Romeros  - Celino and Lito- will present a concert duo.  Lito and Celino are two members of the Quartet of the Romeros – “The Royal family of the Guitars” and which members encompass three generations.

They will share the stage with an incredible duo of pianos. Steven Aguilo-Arbues and Joseph Li will perform music of Infante and Piazzolla among others.

The Concert will be for the Benefit of the BECA Foundation.  This foundation only purpose is to give scholarships to college bound students and has given over 2.6 million dollars in such grants.
