The monthly Chicano Park Steering Committee meeting is next Sunday, Feb 25, at 3 p.m. at the kiosko in Chicano Park, where Cesar Chavez Pkwy meets Logan Avenue. This 36 year old committee is a grassroots organization comprised of volunteers who work towards the development and expansion of Chicano Park and the Annual Chicano Park Day Celebration. Agustin Aguayo is facing court-martial for refusing to go to Iraq. After his application for a conscientious objector discharge was refused, he challenged the refusal in federal court, but was denied. He needs help to mount a defense in military court and to assert his challenge to the military in civilian court. Activist San Diego will be hosting a fundraiser for Aguayo and an action Friday, Feb 23, at the Church of Brethren (3850 Westgate Place) beginning at 7 p.m.
