Head Start Children Receive 25,000 toys from Neighborhood House Association and Toys for Tots

More than 10,000 San Diego County Head Start children have received toys from Neighborhood House Association and Toys for Tots this holiday season. This is the 11th year in a row that Neighborhood House Association (NHA) has joined with the Marine Reserve Center 4th Tanks Battalion in San Diego to give over 25,000 toys to needy Head Start children.

The toys are being picked up from the Marine Reserve Center and delivered by NHA staff from Thanksgiving until the week before Christmas to children from Borrego Springs to Bonita and from Oceanside to Otay Mesa. According to NHA President and CEO Rudolph A. Johnson, III, this is just one of many ways that Head Start partners with outside organizations to make sure that the children under their care are not left out this holiday season.

“It gives us at Toys for Tots great pleasure to put a smile on the faces of tens of thousands of needy children in San Diego County every year,” said Pauline Bonn, a volunteer who coordinates the toy drive for Marine Reserve Center 4th Tanks Battalion.

About one-fifth of the toys that the Marine Reserve Center 4th Tanks Battalion delivers to needy children in San Diego County are delivered to children through the NHA Head Start program, according to Bonn.

“We are very grateful to entities such as Toys for Tots for the support they give to our Head Start children during the holidays”, said Rudolph A. Johnson III, President and CEO of NHA. “NHA truly cares about the families we serve and wants to help ensure that families with limited resources have a special holiday season.”
