Give Our Children A Headstart, Vote for Prop. 82

Proposition 82: Preschool Education. Tax on Incomes Over $400,000 for Individuals; $800,000 for Couples. Initiative Constitutional Amendment and Statute

Prop. 82, is a Preschool Education inititative that is pretty simple to understand. The education process has failed the Hispanic community. Hispanics are at the bottom of the educational ladder. Hispanics are at the bottom when it comes to testing. Hispanics are the bottom when it comes to graduating from High School. Hispanics are at the bottom when it comes to higher education. The only place that Hispanics are on the top of the list is when it comes to the drop out rate.

Addressing the complex problem of educating the Hispanic community has been an issue that has perplexed educators, social scientists, and politicians alike for decades now, and so far the results have been dismal.

Out of all the studies, analysts, and testing, there is one thing we know for sure and that is by the third grade if school children are not reading at grade level that they will spend the rest of their education trying to catch up. The results of this failure to educate in the first three years of a young students life are self evident – failure!

Prop. 82 does not solve all the education problems but it does begin to address the need to get these young students on the right track and to begin the educational process at the pre-school level, to acclimate you students, provide a curriculum standard, and to ensure that there is one trained instructional aide and one certified teacher for every 20 students. In essence this will be the beginning of the education process, which will begin to address the need of ensuring that all children can start the kindergarten better prepared to master the basics in reading, writing, and math so that they then can achieve success in education.

Prop. 82 will be a free program available to ALL pre-school children. It will be funded by taxing individuals 1.7% earning in the excess of $400,000 and married couples earning in excess of $800,000.

Starting the educational process in Kindergarten no longer works. We support and recommend the passage of Prop. 82.
